The New Ware 1:48 He-111 H-6 mask set for the national insignia makes it possible to spray the markings in paint instead of applying decals. The glossy film and the risk of silvering are done away with.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the manufacturer New Ware in 1:48 scale differs from the usual masks for glazing in its purpose. It does not serve to protect the glazing but to make it possible to spray the national and identification markings on the model in paint. The masks are machine-cut and shaped to the parts of the particular ICM 48262 kit, so the size and placing of the markings match the subject.
A decal is always a thin layer of carrier film laid on the surface. On a matte or textured finish the edge of the film often takes on a sheen, and in the jargon this is called silvering. Sprayed markings do not have this problem, because they are part of the layer of paint — once matted down they blend with the surroundings and they take later sanding, washes and pigments without the risk of damaging a decal. The benefit tells above all on the large markings on the wings and the fuselage, where a decal would have to break over riveting and engraved lines.
Let the base coat cure properly, best of all overnight, or the mask will pull the paint away when it is removed. Pre-spray the area under the marking with the color that is to form the outer outline, then apply the mask and lay on the color of the inner part. Work in thin coats and from the edge of the mask toward the middle. With multi-color markings mask in stages and let the paint dry thoroughly between the steps. Sort the remaining strips of the masks out beforehand against the diagram, so that they do not get mixed up.
This is a stand-alone mask set. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
