A set of precisely cut painting masks (kabuki masks) in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer New Ware. Beware, this is not an aircraft kit but a masking set intended for one particular plastic model, the JAS-39A/C Gripen fighter from the manufacturer Kitty Hawk (kit no. 80117). The Expert version is the most comprehensive variant: besides masks for the canopy including its frames it also contains masks for the inner side of the glazing, for further clear parts, for the wheels and masks for spraying the camouflage. Check the exact package contents against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
Masking templates speed up and sharpen the spraying fundamentally. The kabuki tape follows the canopy frames and the edges of the glazing exactly, so that a sharp edge is created without paint creeping under the mask. The wheel masks make spraying the tires and the hubs easier, and the camouflage masks help reproduce the finish without laborious blanking off. The set is intended for this particular Kitty Hawk Gripen, so on another kit the masks need not line up.
Lift the masks off the sheet carefully (tweezers are best), lay them on a clean, degreased surface and press the edges down carefully. Spray the paint in thin coats so that it does not creep under the edge. Once it has dried, peel the mask off before the paint has cured completely. The kabuki tape leaves no adhesive residue and protects even fragile glazing.
This is a masking set, not a kit. The aircraft model, paints and clear coats are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
