The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I EXPERT 1:48 mask set is the widest level of the New Ware mask range for the Tamiya 61119 kit. Against the basic level it offers more pre-cut self-adhesive templates.

The top level of the mask set for a model of the early-series Spitfire in 1:48 scale. The EXPERT designation says nothing about how difficult the work is; it describes the scope of the package. It is the widest variant of the range and holds more templates than the BASIC level. The templates are cut to fit one specific kit, the Tamiya 61119, so they sit without trial fitting and trimming. It is not a kit or a spare part, but an accessory used during painting.
The canopy of the Spitfire is domed in two directions. Ordinary masking tape breaks up over a shape like that, ripples along the edge and lifts in the corner of a frame, so paint bleeds underneath. Cut film follows the edge of the frame exactly and holds even where the curvature changes. With the widest level you also avoid cutting out further small shapes by hand, which would be very hard to do in this scale.
Work from the largest shapes to the smallest, and each time lay the mask on first, check that it is seated and only then press it down. Run the tip of the tweezers across the face of the film, not the adhesive side. In places that are hard to reach a damp cotton swab helps, to push the film down into a corner. Spray in thin coats and take the mask off before the paint has hardened completely. Store the rest of the carrier sheet flat and out of direct sun; the offcuts come in handy for other small masking jobs too.
The package holds only the masking templates. The kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
