With angular camouflage a single thing decides the result: how clean the transition between the two shades is. In 1:48 scale this boundary measures only a few centimeters on the fuselage and the eye notices it before anything else. Spraying it freehand means either working at very low pressure and risking a grainy surface, or outlining with strips of adhesive tape and fighting the fact that tape peels away on a rounded fuselage. A pre-cut shape leaves that fight out altogether.
It is the third of the numbered patterns the brand offers for the E series. The shapes come from the parts of a particular Airfix kit in this scale and cover the E-1, E-3 and E-7 versions including the finish for hot regions.
Spray the base shade, let it cure and polish the surface lightly with a soft cloth, so that the film holds well on it. Lay the parts from the fuselage toward the wingtips and keep checking the symmetry of the two halves. After the second shade has been sprayed, take the mask off and look at the edge from the side under a sharp light. The package holds only masking material, and you deal with the kit, the paints and the decals separately.
A nozzle of around 0.3 mm and a lower pressure than you are used to for large areas suit the spraying. Thin the paint a little more, so that the edge does not clog, and always start the spray off the model. The first pass should only mist the edge of the film, and full coverage comes only with the second and the third. The procedure takes a few extra minutes, but the edge comes out without a built-up ridge that would stand out once the mask is off.
