This is a detail accessory of cast resin, not a kit of an aircraft. The content is a replacement engine exhaust nozzle for a model of the MiG-23BN in 1:48, made in the open position and with a worked-out inner structure that injected plastic usually only suggests. Aires is a Czech manufacturer of modeling accessories and its resin castings are among the most finely made on the market.
The MiG-23BN is the ground-attack and fighter-bomber version of the Soviet MiG-23 with a variable-geometry wing. It differs from the fighter versions in the shape of the nose and in the equipment for attacking ground targets. The engine exhaust nozzle with afterburner is among the most noticeable places on a model: it is made up of an array of moving petals that change the cross-section according to the engine setting. The designation of the early version refers to the earlier pattern of nozzle, which differs from the later one in the shape and division of the petals.
First wash the resin part in lukewarm water with detergent to remove any mold release agent; otherwise the paint will not hold. Cut the casting block off with a fine saw or a snap-off knife, and never break it off by force. Sand wet and with your airways protected, as resin dust is not to be inhaled. Gluing is done with super glue, that is cyanoacrylate; classic plastic cement has no effect on resin. Dry-fit before gluing and if need be adjust the mating surface, as a little fitting is usual with accessories from a manufacturer other than the one that made the base model. The inside of the nozzle looks best after a metal shade is sprayed on and it is slightly darkened with a sooty wash toward the outlet.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
