This item is not a kit of an airplane but a detail resin set from the Aires brand. It replaces the wheel bay on a model of the carrier-based F/A-18E or F/A-18F aircraft in 1:48 scale with a casting with full interior structure. On a model standing on its landing gear the bay belongs among the places that can be seen into from below and from the side, so the detail pays off.
Plastic kits usually handle wheel bays as a shallow tub with suggested relief. The real bay, by contrast, is deep and full of ribs, lines and hydraulic elements. A resin casting manages this structure in one piece and without parting seams. On a carrier-based aircraft the landing gear is more robust than on a land-based machine and the bay correspondingly broken up, which is exactly what tells on a model.
Wash the parts in warm water with detergent because of the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw and sand the surfaces wet; protect your breathing when sanding resin. The set has to be tried dry repeatedly - with bays it is normally reckoned that material will be taken away from the inside of the plastic parts. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Painting: spray the bay before the fuselage is closed, and after the base coat emphasize the details with a dark wash, the edges with a dry brush, and add restrained traces of service, so that the inside does not come across as flat.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
