An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet MiG-23 fighter in the ML version (NATO reporting name Flogger-G) in 1:48 scale from Trumpeter. The kit stands out for its well detailed cockpit, landing gear bays and above all the swing-wing mechanism with an adjustable sweep angle. Photo-etched parts (for example the seat belts) and a decal sheet are included. Check the exact contents on the box of the particular item.
The MiG-23 is a single-seat Soviet fighter with a variable-geometry wing, developed as a higher-performance successor to the popular MiG-21. The fundamental novelty was a much more powerful engine and a swing wing with three basic sweep positions, which allowed good take-off performance as well as high speed in level flight. The ML version was among the lighter and more agile forms with improved avionics and was in service with a number of Warsaw Pact countries and other users.
Assemble the swing-wing mechanism carefully so that it stays movable and symmetrical. Use liquid cement that wicks into the seams on the plastic and apply a primer before painting. Finish and paint the richly detailed cockpit and the landing gear bays before you close the fuselage. Glue the clear canopy last and mask the glazing frames. The camouflage comes out well sprayed with an airbrush with the panel lines brought out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
