An accessory set for the lower part of the MiG-29 version 9-12 airframe in 1:48 scale from Black Dog. It serves to add detail to a finished kit; the aircraft model itself is not in the package.
Responsibility details are not available.
Black Dog has long worked on accessories that reveal on a model what tends to be merely suggested in the box: engine and equipment bays, units and internal airframe fittings. This set is listed as an accessory for the lower section of the MiG-29 in the initial production version 9-12 and is meant to be combined with a finished kit. The manufacturer offers further parts for the same type, so you can add detail to the model step by step, according to what you want to have open.
The MiG-29 in the 9-12 form is the basic production version of the twin-engined fighter, with RD-33 engines, a characteristically curved center section and side air intakes with protective doors. The lower part of the airframe is one of the rewarding areas on this type for a modeler: it carries a great deal of technical detail that is clearly visible on a parked machine, and much of it comes into view on a model standing on its landing gear.
Before you start gluing, test fit the parts to see how much plastic has to be removed from the model, and widen the opening gradually. Sand the cuts, degrease the surfaces and spray them with a primer. Use cyanoacrylate glue to join them; ordinary polystyrene cement will not hold here. Interior spaces usually look best with a lighter base, a darker wash into the recesses and discreet drybrushing on the edges; the wiring and the hoses then only need picking out with a fine brush.
