MiG-3 Exhausts 1:48 (Quickboost)

This resin set from Quickboost, a brand of the Czech maker Aires, brings faithfully cast exhaust stubs for a model of the Soviet Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-3 fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an airplane model but a detail accessory for more experienced modelers, replacing the solid plastic exhausts with a casting of fine shape and suggested openings. The sides of the engine cowling gain a more realistic look and are easier to weather.

The real subject

The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-3 was a Soviet single-engine high-altitude fighter from the beginning of the Second World War, powered by a Mikulin V12 engine. It excelled at great heights, but lost performance and agility at lower altitudes. It was used mainly in the first years of the war, among other things in the defense of Soviet airspace.

Tips for working with resin

First wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove mold release residue. Cut off the casting blocks with a saw and sand the cut surfaces with respiratory protection. Bond the parts with super glue (cyanoacrylate), not with plastic cement. Test the fit dry before painting, as resin may need a little cleaning up.
