This item is not an aircraft kit but a set from Eduard's SPACE line of 3D decals. The motifs are printed on decal paper in relief and in color, so on the model they read as a three-dimensional, already painted part, while all you do is release them from the moistened backing paper. The set is aimed at the interior of the MiG-21R model in 1:48 scale and is a convenient alternative to a resin cockpit for anyone who does not want to get into cutting and gluing.
The MiG-21R was the reconnaissance version of the Soviet supersonic fighter with its characteristic delta wing and nose intake with a movable cone. It differed from the fighter versions mainly in the equipment for carrying a reconnaissance pod under the fuselage and in the related changes to the airframe and equipment. The type was among the most widespread supersonic aircraft of its day and served with a great many countries, so it holds a permanent place on the modeling scene. On the reconnaissance version the cockpit stayed close to the fighters of the same generation.
Prepare the surface smooth and glossy; on a matte finish a haze would be left around the decals. Cut the motifs out closely and moisten only the backing paper beneath them, for which a sponge with a drop of detergent is enough. Lift the relief elements with tweezers and seat them at the first attempt, not by pressing across the surface. Soak up the remaining moisture with a cotton swab, fix the element with white PVA glue and let it dry thoroughly. A decal softener does not belong on these elements, as its chemistry attacks the printed resin. Finally unify the surface with a matte clear coat; the dial faces can be brought to life with a drop of clear gloss varnish that suggests the glass of the instruments.
This is an accessory, not a model. The kit, clear coats and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
