Decals 1:48 for a Mirage F-1C with the code 12-YA in the festive finish for the tiger meet of 1994, the unit EC 1/12 Cambresis.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mirage F-1C was, unlike its delta predecessors, a conventionally arranged fighter with a swept wing and a horizontal tail surface, which gave it better qualities in takeoff and in maneuvering combat. The unit EC 1/12 Cambresis flew it for a number of years and, as a holder of the tiger badge, took part regularly in the international meets. For the 1994 edition it sent out the machine with the code 12-YA in a finish that this sheet reproduces exactly.
The print covers the festive graphics prepared for that meet, the badges of the unit, French roundels and registration lettering in the matching sizes. Because the F-1C has a narrower fuselage and a smaller fin than the later types, the main elements are laid out differently from machines with a large vertical surface, and when settling them care has to be taken over following the edges of the panels exactly.
It has proved best to lay out the position of the elements dry before soaking, ideally after a photograph of the subject. A smooth gloss coat belongs under the print; once settled, gently push the water out with a soft cloth and finally use a softener where the film passes over rivets or panel lines. The dried surface is clear-coated so that the edges are lost.
French tiger machines of the 1990s are sought after today, because the F-1C type has disappeared from the front line and its festive finishes are rarely to be found any more. The 1994 edition is among the more colorful ones.
