About product

Eduard 1:48 - pilot's seat for the Mitsubishi A6M3 Zero

A 3D printed accessory from Eduard for the cockpit of a model of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M3 carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. It replaces the plastic seat from the kit with a part of finer shape and thinner walls. It is not an aircraft model but a single component for a plastic kit you already have.

What the accessory is for

The seat is the first thing seen in an open cockpit, and the plastic part tends to be needlessly thick because of the injection process. A printed replacement manages thin edges, lightening holes and fine texture that cannot be made in an injection mold. The result is a deeper, more credible cockpit even without folding up small photo-etched parts.

How the accessory differs from the other Eduard ranges

Eduard offers accessories in several forms and the differences are worth noting. A Zoom set is a smaller, pre-painted selection from the full photo-etched set with the focus on the cockpit; the full photo-etched set is more extensive and covers external details too; masks are self-adhesive templates for the glazing and the wheels; bundled sets bring several sets together in one package; decal sets contain markings only. Against that, this product is a single-purpose printed part: it solves exactly one component.

The real subject

The Mitsubishi A6M3 was the version of the carrier fighter characterized by the Sakae engine with a two-speed supercharger. Some machines had shortened wingtips without the folding tips, which improved the roll rate. The cockpit stayed simple and open to view, so the internal equipment shows well on a model.

Usage tips

Wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry. Separate it from the support structure with a sharp scalpel, working in several shallow cuts where it is thin. It is bonded with super glue. The interior of Japanese fighters tends to be specific in color, so choose the paint according to reference material for the particular machine rather than a general idea. The seat looks good with harness belts added, which are sold separately.

Who the part is for

  • Builders of the A6M3 model in 1:48 scale with an open cockpit
  • Modelers who dislike the thick walls of a plastic seat
  • Anyone wanting a quick rise in detail from a single part

The accessory is meant for a plastic kit. The kit itself, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

By the name it is the seat. Eduard offers belts separately in photo-etched and pre-painted sets; check the exact contents of the package in the manufacturer's data sheet.

It is not. It is a single part for the cockpit, fitted into a plastic kit in 1:48 scale bought separately.

Wash it in lukewarm water with detergent, let it dry and spray it with a primer. Without that the paint holds worse on the smooth printed surface.
