A masking set for a model of the Japanese Mitsubishi Ki-51 aircraft, Allied reporting name Sonia, in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mitsubishi Ki-51 was a light ground-attack and reconnaissance aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force of the Second World War period. The Allies assigned it the reporting name Sonia. It is recognizable by its fixed landing gear with aerodynamic wheel spats and by the long glazed cockpit for a crew of two, which on a model in 1:48 scale covers a large area and gives the most work when painting.
The set holds masking templates cut to shape for this aircraft in 1:48 scale. They cover the areas that are to stay free of paint, so that after spraying the glazing stays clean and the transitions have a sharp edge. Which particular parts are covered you will find in the instructions on the packaging.
The masks are applied before spraying, onto a clean and degreased surface. Lay the template on and press it down all the way round with a stick or a blunt toothpick so that paint does not run under the edge. Spray in thin coats and rather in two passes, because a heavy coat will build a ridge at the edge of a mask. Take the mask off while the finish is freshly dried, not after several days, and peel it slowly at a sharp angle. Wipe any adhesive residue away with a clean cloth.
For modelers who want neither to trace the glazing laboriously with a brush nor to tape it up piece by piece. The time saved shows above all on multi-color camouflage, where masking is repeated. The aircraft model, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
