An accessory set for modelers, not an airplane kit. It holds a vacuum-formed clear canopy and a set of painting masks for the canopy frames in 1:48 scale. It serves as a replacement for the injection-molded canopy from the base kit — a vacuum-formed part is noticeably thinner, cleaner and more transparent, which shows most of all on a canopy. The set is intended for more advanced modelers, because working with vacuum-formed glazing calls for an accurate trim.
Injection-molded canopies tend to be thick, with visible frames and with distortion of the view into the interior. A thin vacuum-formed part removes that problem and at the same time makes it possible to open the canopy — the resulting thickness of the edge then looks credible, unlike the several millimeters of wall on an injection-molded part. The masks supplied give sharp frame edges without the labor of cutting tape and without paint running under the mask.
First trace the parting line on the part with a fine marker and only then trim it — best with repeated light passes of a fresh blade, or with scissors for film, never by force. True the edge on flat abrasive paper laid on a board: hold the part square and sand in circles until it seats into the fuselage. Dry-fit the part before gluing and adjust the seat in the fuselage if needed. It is glued with PVA glue for glazing or with a canopy glue that does not fog; liquid cyanoacrylate glue will fog a clear part. Transparency is improved by dipping it in gloss varnish for glazing and letting it drain slowly. Apply the masks to a perfectly degreased surface and press them down with a toothpick; spray the paint in thin coats so that no ridge forms under the mask.
