This Quickboost accessory set in 1:48 scale captures the ground protective covers of the kind fitted to the single-seat Northrop F-5E and the two-seat F-5F between flights. The covers carry conspicuous tags reading Remove Before Flight, which the ground crew has to take off before takeoff. The package contains neither the aircraft nor parts of it.
A model with the covers fitted immediately gains a different story: it is not just parked, but caught after landing or in preparation for the next flight. Together with a figure of a technician, a tow bar or a simple surface, a small scene comes about even without a whole diorama. At the same time the covers neatly close off places that would otherwise call for laborious refining of the shape, so the builder saves a piece of work as well.
Fit the parts dry until you have checked that they sit on the particular kit; even out small gaps by sanding. The rich color of the tags shows best on a smooth base, so it pays off to spray a ground coat and only then apply the final shade. The lettering can be managed either with a very fine brush or with a small decal left over from another sheet.
