The Brengun 1:48 plastic kit of the Soviet cruise missile 16KhA Priboy from the design bureau of V. N. Chelomey, dropped from a carrier bomber.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet cruise missile 16KhA Priboy in 1:48 scale. It is not a crewed aircraft but an unmanned weapon dropped from a carrier bomber. It is an unusual subject that complements a collection of early postwar rocket hardware well in a display case, and thanks to its straightforward shape the build is fairly quick.
The missile of the 16Kh series with the cover designation Priboy came about after the Second World War in the design bureau led by Vladimir Chelomey and followed on from Soviet work with the captured German Fi 103 missile. It was a mid-wing design powered by a pair of pulsejets at the tail. The launch did not take place from the ground but by being dropped from a carrier aircraft — Tu-2 and later Tu-4 bombers were used. The missile reached a speed of around 900 km/h and a range of approximately 190 km. Trials took place at the turn of the 1940s and 1950s, but the type was not introduced into series service and the program was ended.
The body is a simple rotational shape, so the seam along its length has to disappear completely — thin filler, sanding out to nothing and a check with a gloss primer will reveal every unevenness. Seat the engine nacelles according to the axis marks and let them dry in a horizontal position, so that they are not twisted. The model looks good on a simple stand imitating the attachment under a carrier aircraft. The metal and warning-colored surfaces of the trial examples call for a smooth base and thin layers of paint.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
