This set brings resin wheels with a faithful tire tread and hub detail, together with paint masks. It is not an airplane model, but a detail accessory for refining the landing gear of the American Grumman OV-1 Mohawk observation and reconnaissance aircraft in 1:48 scale. The resin wheels replace the plastic parts from the kit and give the landing gear a crisper look.
The OV-1 Mohawk was a two-seat observation aircraft of the US Army with two turboprop engines and a distinctive triple vertical tail. It served for battlefield reconnaissance and was deployed, among other places, in Vietnam and in later conflicts.
First wash the resin castings in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent to remove mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off carefully with a saw or break them off and sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. Glue the parts with cyanoacrylate glue. The masks supplied speed up a clean separation of the tire from the hub — stick them on before spraying and peel them off once dry. Shade the tires to a matte dark tone and the hubs according to the particular machine.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
