A set for the Republic P-47D in 1:48 scale. It brings film for the outer framing of the cockpit, a stencil for the national insignia and eight metal barrels for the wing machine guns.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Republic P-47D was the largest single-engine fighter of its day and it bore a weight of over seven tons thanks to a radial engine with a turbocharger housed as far back as the rear part of the fuselage. Four .50 caliber Brownings fitted into each half of the wing, their barrels projecting from the leading edge in a staggered row so that the ammunition belts would fit into the boxes. The eight weapons made it a feared destroyer of ground targets over France and Germany.
The stagger of the barrels is precisely what makes a model of this type a test of patience. The holes do not lie in a straight line but in two offset groups, and any irregularity is visible on the finished wing. Metal muzzles solve the problem by all being the same length and the same diameter, so it is enough to keep to the depth of insertion.
Against a masking set for the same aircraft without metal this one adds eight turned barrels, that is one for every weapon of the type. On a machine where the armament is the main recognition feature that is among the most useful additions there is. Anyone, on the other hand, who is planning a model with bombs and rockets slung under it in low flight, where the wing points away from the viewer, manages without them and loses no effect. The decisive guide is the position of the model in the display case.
