An injection-molded plastic model of the American fighter Republic P-47D Thunderbolt in the razorback rendering (with the high spine behind the cockpit) in 1:48 scale from Tamiya (kit number 61086). It is a typical modern Tamiya tooling with optional positions for the flaps and the engine cowl flaps, a choice of gunsights, mirrors and propellers and a rich selection of external stores (bombs, rockets and drop tanks) as well as a pilot figure. The model is built from injection-molded plastic; neither photo-etch nor masks are included in the package.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was among the heaviest and most rugged single-seat fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by the Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine with a turbocharger, thanks to which it excelled at high altitude. The version with the razorback fuselage was the earlier rendering, before the teardrop canopy was introduced. Thunderbolts escorted Allied bombers over Germany and, thanks to their toughness and large payload, proved themselves in attacks on ground targets as well.
Thin cement for plastic is recommended; thanks to the accurate Tamiya fit the model can be built without filling the main joints. Assemble and paint the radial engine and the cockpit interior before closing the fuselage. Machines in natural metal call for a quality base and metallic shades with panels set apart, while camouflaged machines call for an airbrush and a fine wash into the panel lines. Mask the cockpit glazing with your own tape.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
