A decal sheet from Armycast for models of the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter in the D and N versions in 1:48 scale. The name of the sheet refers to machines operated in different parts of the world, that is, to markings you will mostly not find in ordinary kits. The package holds decals only — the model, paints and glue are not part of it.
The Thunderbolt was among the heaviest single-engine fighters of its day. The D version was built in the largest numbers and existed both with a dorsal spine and with a bubble canopy; the N version came about for operations over long distances and differed mainly in a reworked wing. After the war, Thunderbolts entered service with a number of further states, where they flew for many more years and carried very varied markings. It is this postwar chapter that tends to be the most interesting for modelers, because it offers color schemes outside the usual repertoire.
Finish the model first and coat it with a gloss varnish, and only then start on the decals. Cut the motifs out as close to the artwork as possible, soak them in lukewarm water and let them rest for a moment before you slide the film onto the surface. Put a drop of water under the larger markings, as they then move more easily. Once they are settled, soak up the excess and let them dry thoroughly before you use a softener. A final matte or satin varnish unifies the film with the surface so that the edges are not noticeable.
This is a decal sheet, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
