Masks for the canopy and the insignia of the fastest Thunderbolt, the P-47M, in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The letter M marks a version created for a single task: to catch something that flew faster than everything else. In 1944 V-1 flying bombs appeared over England and the first jet machines over Germany, and the American command needed a fighter that could keep them in sight. Republic therefore took the airframe with the bubble canopy, put a reworked Double Wasp with a new turbocharger into it, and got an aircraft that passed the 700 kilometers per hour mark in level flight.
Only around 130 were built and all of them went to one fighter group in the east of England. There was little joy in them for long, though: after the voyage across the ocean the engines suffered from faulty ignition insulation and from corrosion, so the machines spent a substantial part of the winter on the ground. By the time the faults were cleared it was the spring of 1945 and the war was drawing to a close. The group did manage to shoot down several jet opponents. After the capitulation the aircraft went for scrap almost at once, because nobody wanted to maintain them.
The set contains two glazing masks, that is for the outer and the inner face, and two parts for the national insignia. The bubble canopy has only a narrow frame around its edge, and narrow lines like that are the hardest thing to do with hand-cut tape. A pre-cut shape solves it for you.
Lay the film on dry glass, run a blunt tool along the edge and apply the paint in several thin coats. A heavy coat tends to leave a step at the edge.
