1:48 Padlocks are a photo-etched accessory set, not a model kit: small padlocks of photo-etched metal with which boxes, tool bins and doors on a model already under way in 1:48 scale are completed.

This is an accessory for a model under way or already finished, not a kit of a vehicle. The Czech maker Hauler supplies the set as a photo-etched fret, from which the individual miniature padlocks and their eyes are cut out. In 1:48 scale they sharpen up the places where a plastic molding offers only a suggested shape or nothing at all: tool boxes, bins for spare parts, hatches, cupboard doors and the doors of diorama buildings.
Photo-etched sheet is a few tenths of a millimeter thick, so a small object comes across even after painting as a piece of metal and not as a softened molding. The relief is etched from both sides, the edges stay sharp and a padlock keeps a legible shape even after a base coat and a covering color have gone on. On an object the size of a poppy seed, it is precisely the thickness of the material that decides credibility.
Cut the parts off the fret with a sharp scalpel or photo-etch shears on a hard surface, and never break them out with your fingers. Level the remains of the tab with a fine file. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and go over it with a base coat, or the paint will flake off at the first handling. It is bonded with super glue applied on the tip of a pin, so that any excess does not run into the surroundings. For painting, a dark steel shade works well, then gentle drybrushing with a lighter metal on the edges once it has dried, and a light brown wash in the seam between the lock and the eye.
This is an accessory set, not a kit. The base model, glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
