The early version of the track for the Panzer III and Panzer IV, the years 1939 to 1942, in 1:48 scale from AMMO of Mig Jimenez.
Responsibility details are not available.
This track set from AMMO of Mig Jimenez for 1:48 scale captures the version that the name places in the period between 1939 and 1942. It is bought for a finished kit of a German medium tank as a replacement for the track from the box. From the dates in the name the version is easy to pair with the matching version of the vehicle.
In the first years of the war the Panzer III and the Panzer IV ran on narrower tracks, which were enough for the made-up roads of western Europe and for the dry ground of North Africa. Only the experience of the Russian autumn and winter led to the search for a wider version. For a model of an early machine the correct type of track is therefore as important as the shape of the turret or the length of the gun, because it is by these details that the whole vehicle is dated. In North Africa, by contrast, the narrower track served reliably on stony ground and the crews complained rather about dust in the transmission.
First try the run around the drive sprocket and the idler wheel without glue. On early machines the sag between the return rollers tends to be smaller than we are used to on later vehicles, so do not overdo it. For the color, start from dark steel, add light dust in the shade of the surrounding terrain and leave a sheen only where the track rolls. Join the links a few at a time and let the finished stretches rest on a flat surface while they set.
