This injection-molded plastic kit from Amodel captures the American Piasecki HUP Retriever shipboard helicopter in 1:72 scale. It is a short-run model with a good engraved surface; the set allows either the HUP-1 or the HUP-2 variant to be built and offers a cabin with detailed seats and a complete radial engine.
The HUP Retriever was a compact helicopter with tandem rotors used by the US Navy from the turn of the 1940s and 1950s. It served for rescuing pilots, for liaison and for light transport from the decks of ships. The HUP-2 version was given a more powerful engine and an autopilot and was built in greater numbers.
With a short-run model count on dry-fitting the parts and cleaning the mating faces up. Finish the cabin interior and the engine before closing the fuselage up. Use a thin cement for plastic and a fine filler on the joints; the glossy naval scheme, gloss sea blue, comes into its own on a smooth base, so smooth the surface carefully and unify it with a primer.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
