The Retriever was a compact helicopter with a pair of main rotors arranged in tandem, an arrangement that appeared only rarely on small machines. Thanks to the counter-rotating rotors it needed no tail rotor and had a short, stocky silhouette. It served mainly with the Navy in the 1950s: it provided standby duty during flying operations, lifted crews out of the water, carried people and cargo between ships and performed liaison tasks. For the lifting there was an internal hoist above a hatch in the cabin floor.
The procedure is the classic one, but on this type it is worth paying particular attention to the curved surfaces of the fuselage, where larger insignia easily wrinkle. It helps to divide a large feature into smaller parts and settle them one by one, or to use a stronger decal softener and let it work without touching it. The surface has to be smooth and glossy, otherwise matte edges will appear around the film. Once it is dry, choose the final degree of sheen according to the condition of the real machine you are modeling.
