A Model Maker decal set in 1:48 scale aimed at stenciling, that is, at the small technical and service legends. The name says so directly with the word stencils, which sets this set apart from sheets with national insignia and color schemes. It is an accessory for a finished, painted model, not a kit. How many individual legends the sheet holds does not follow from the name.
Service legends are what moves a model from a toy to a faithful miniature. On a real aircraft they mark the points for handling, the filler necks, warning instructions for the crew and the service panels. On a model they are small, but it is exactly their presence that makes the surface live and breaks up the large uniform areas of paint.
With stenciling it pays to set your workplace up: tweezers with fine tips, flat brushes, a dish of lukewarm water and a magnifier if need be. The surface must be gloss varnish, otherwise silvering will show all the more conspicuously across dozens of small motifs. Cut each legend out with a minimal margin of film, and after soaking move it from the dampened paper into place with the tip of a brush and align it gently. Dose the softener sparingly on small motifs, since a strong product easily wrinkles and dissolves a small decal. Apply section by section and let the surface dry in between, so you do not shift the finished legends with your hand. Finally seal the whole with a matte or semi-gloss varnish.
The package holds decals. The model, the paints, the varnishes and the tools are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
