The PZL W-3 Sokol is a utility helicopter of Polish design, which flew for the first time at the end of the 1970s. It is powered by two turboshaft engines, which against single-engine machines of a similar size gives it a greater reserve of power and better conditions for operating over built-up areas. The type was built in a whole range of forms, transport, rescue, medical and police, and is used in military and civil service alike. Police machines tend to be conspicuous for their bold color schemes and their additional equipment for observation and communication.
On a helicopter the cabin decides the result: the glazing is extensive and the interior will be in view, so it pays to finish and paint the inside first and only then to close the fuselage. Do not glue the clear parts with ordinary plastic cement, which will cloud them. Use a clear adhesive for canopies or a cyanoacrylate intended for clear parts. Police schemes tend to be boldly colored, so before the decals it pays to apply a gloss varnish compatible with the paint used and, once it has dried, to unify the surface with a matte varnish. Glue the rotor blades on right at the end, so that they do not snap off during the work.
