The Romeo Ro 43 float biplane in Spanish service, 1:48 scale from the Czech brand Special Hobby. A kit of the Italian shipborne reconnaissance aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
A kit of a float biplane from the Czech brand Special Hobby, prepared around the episode when these Italian machines ended up in Spain. For this release the manufacturer states decals for one aircraft in the original Italian markings and one in the later Spanish ones. The combination of the welded float, struts and bracing makes the model rewarding work for anyone who wants to try rigging.
The Ro 43 was a catapult reconnaissance aircraft of the Italian Regia Marina. Surface ships carried it, it launched from a catapult and, after landing on the water, a crane lifted it back aboard. The layout is unusual: one large central float and two auxiliary ones under the wings. In September 1943 a group of these machines flew out of La Spezia; some did not survive the journey, while the rest reached the Balearic Islands, where the crews were interned and the aircraft then served with Spanish naval aviation.
The key is to hold the geometry: seat the upper wing to a template and align the float along the vertical axis, otherwise the model sits crooked on its base. Polish the struts and paint them before fitting. Run a gloss layer over the surfaces before the decals and tension the rigging at the very end, so that it does not get in the way while handling the model.
Waiting in the box is an unassembled model with no finish; paints and chemicals have to be obtained separately.
