An injection-molded plastic kit of the Swedish SAAB J 29F Tunnan jet fighter in 1:48 scale from Pilot Replicas. This edition concentrates on aircraft in Austrian service. The kit offers a fine engraved surface, photo-etched parts and good decals.
The SAAB 29 Tunnan, nicknamed the Flying Barrel, was the first Swedish jet fighter with a swept wing and it first flew in 1948. The J 29F version was powered by a license-built de Havilland Ghost engine with an afterburner and carried four 20 mm cannon. In the 1960s the Austrian Air Force took over used Swedish J 29F aircraft and operated them on fighter and reconnaissance duties until 1972. The Austrian machines carried bold yellow and red codes according to their squadrons, which makes them a rewarding subject.
Use liquid cement for plastic and finish the cockpit interior before you close the fuselage. Cover the glazing with a mask, apply a primer and spray thin coats of color with an airbrush. For a metallic-looking surface it pays to have a smooth base, to stir the metallic paint thoroughly and to apply it last, because it is harder to overspray and mask.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
