About product

Eduard TFace 1:48 Sea King HAS.1/HAS.5/HU.5 - masks outside and inside

The TFace designation means that the set holds masks for both sides of the glazing. That is the difference from the basic variant, which deals only with the outer surfaces. In practice it works like this: you keep the inner masks on the glass while you spray the interior color, so the window frames get the correct cabin shade from inside and do not stay in the color of the outer finish. With the glazed nose cabin of the Sea King a great deal can be seen into the model and the difference shows. The set is an aid for painting, not a part of the model or a decal; according to the name it covers the HAS.1, HAS.5 and HU.5 versions.

The real subject

The Westland Sea King is the British license version of the Sikorsky S-61. The HAS.1 and HAS.5 were antisubmarine versions of the Royal Navy, while the HU.5 came about by converting them into a general purpose and rescue machine. All have the same characteristic nose with extensive front glazing and side windows, on which the frame is visible from both sides. The cabin interior, moreover, is painted in a different color from the outside of the fuselage, so masking from the outside only would leave the inner frames in the wrong shade.

Usage tips

First apply the inner masks, spray the interior and leave the masks in place. Then set the glazing into the fuselage, add the outer masks and paint the outside. Take the inner masks off only at the very end of the build. Wash and degrease the glazing in advance, otherwise the mask will not adhere. Lay the paint on in thin coats and peel the mask off shortly after it has dried, pulling it back over itself. Wipe off any adhesive residue with a cotton swab moistened with spirit.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers who want the correct color of the frames from the inner side as well
  • Builders of the Sea King in 1:48 scale in the HAS.1, HAS.5 and HU.5 versions
  • Those who build a model with the glazed nose on show
  • More advanced modelers for whom the basic outer mask is not enough

FAQ

That the set holds masks for both sides of the glazing. The basic variant without that designation deals only with the outer surfaces.

It is worth it if you want the window frames in the cabin color from inside. On a helicopter with large glazing the interior is visible and the difference shows.

First the inner masks and painting the interior, then setting the glazing in, the outer masks and painting the fuselage. The inner masks come off only at the end.

The name gives the HAS.1, HAS.5 and HU.5. These versions have identical cabin glazing.
