A photo-etched set of parts in 1:48 scale for a model of the Sea King HAS.5 anti-submarine helicopter. An add-on for a plastic kit, not a model in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Sea King HAS.5 is the anti-submarine version of the heavy naval Sea King helicopter, as British production developed it under license and as it served with the Fleet Air Arm. The HAS designation says that it was a machine armed and equipped for searching out and attacking submarines. It was a large twin-engine helicopter with a boat-shaped fuselage, with side sponsons and with a folding tail boom, so that it would fit into a ship's hangar. A machine like that has a great deal of small equipment on a model, which in injection-molded plastic is only suggested.
The set consists of parts etched out of thin metal sheet. Photo-etched parts are used where a plastic part would have to be too thick for production reasons: on grilles, handles, steps, straps, stiffeners and fine fittings. What exactly the set contains and where each part belongs is given in the enclosed instructions from the manufacturer.
Separate the parts with a sharp blade on a hard surface, never break them out, a bent photo-etched part straightens badly. Make the bends in a bending tool or over the edge of a blade, best in a single pull. They are bonded with super glue applied with a pin, on larger areas with two-part epoxy. Before painting wash and degrease the metal and use a primer meant for metal, otherwise the coat will peel off in time. Fit the set as the build goes along, many parts can no longer be got into place once the fuselage is closed.
This is an add-on for a plastic kit. The kit itself, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
