About product

SEPECAT Jaguar GR.1/GR.1a sensors, 1:48 (Quickboost, for the Airfix kit)

A set of resin sensors and probes that replaces the corresponding small parts on the Jaguar airframe. It is NOT an aircraft kit - it is an accessory for a base model that you buy separately; glue and paints are not in the package. The manufacturer of the accessory states it for the 1:48 Jaguar GR.1/GR.1a kit by Airfix.

Small sensors are exactly the class of parts that injection-molded plastic falls short on. A mold cannot render a needle or a sharp edge without draft, so the kit parts come out thick, soft and blurred - and the larger the model, the more it shows. A resin casting keeps a fine, thin and crisply defined profile that looks right for the scale once painted. It is the classic upgrade of the little work, plenty to see kind: you swap a handful of inconspicuous little parts and the whole airframe looks a class sharper.

The real subject

The SEPECAT Jaguar was a British-French attack aircraft, the result of a joint program of the two countries. The twin-engine machine with its long slender fuselage was originally conceived as a trainer, but it grew into a full-blooded tactical attack aircraft; the GR.1 and GR.1a versions served with the Royal Air Force. Jaguar airframes were gradually fitted with further sensors, aerials and probes over their service life - which is exactly why this class of parts decides whether a model matches a particular period of service.

Working with resin

First wash the parts in lukewarm water with detergent - the surface tends to carry mold release agent and paint would not hold on it. The parts are cut off the casting block with a saw or a sharp knife; snapping a thin probe off means breaking it. For gluing, do not use liquid polystyrene cement, it simply does not work on resin - reach for super glue, or for epoxy. Do any cleaning up wet, because resin dust is harmful to health.

Who the set is for

  • For builders of the Jaguar in 1:48 who want sharp shapes instead of thick plastic imitations
  • For modelers who build a particular machine and watch the details of the airframe
  • For fans of Cold War and modern British hardware
  • For anyone who wants a quick upgrade without a major conversion

The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.

FAQ

No. This is only a set of small resin sensors. The base Jaguar kit in 1:48 has to be bought separately.

It is a set of small sensors and probes for the aircraft airframe; the exact number of pieces is not stated here.

Wash off the mold release agent, cut them from the casting block with a saw or a knife, glue them with super glue or epoxy and sand only wet - resin dust must not be inhaled.
