Hauler 1:48 Sherman M4, fenders is a photo-etched set aimed exclusively at replacing the plastic fenders on the Tamiya kit. A metal fender has a thin edge and can be shaped.
Responsibility details are not available.
A narrowly focused accessory: the set deals with the fenders, nothing more. And it is precisely they that give the plastic away on a model fastest. An injection-molded fender has to be a few tenths of a millimeter thick because of the mold, which when scaled up corresponds to sheet over a centimeter thick. A photo-etched metal part has an edge as thin as it should be, and it can moreover be bent, dented or partly torn away.
A fender on a tank is a horizontal surface at the viewer's eye level, and the edge draws itself against the background. On real machines it was also the part that took a beating first, so deformation and missing pieces are common on hardware in service and look credible. Metal makes that possible, whereas plastic breaks instead of bending.
Cut the original plastic fenders off with a saw or a sharp chisel and level the area with a file, and only then try the fit of the metal part dry. Do the shaping before gluing: level straight stretches on glass and create a curve with the pressure of a round shank over a soft surface. Glue the brackets and reinforcements on only once the main area is seated. Degrease the metal with alcohol before painting and spray on a base coat, otherwise the paint will flake off at the bends. The edge of the fender then only needs picking out lightly with a dry brush.
An accessory to a model, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
