The Sikorsky UH-60 Black Hawk is an American twin-engine helicopter which from the end of the 1970s took over the role of the main machine for carrying soldiers and materiel. The UH-60A version was the first production form; the MH-60L belongs to the later modifications for special tasks. The glazing of the pilot's compartment on the Black Hawk is extensive and divided up, so the frames give plenty of work during painting.
These are painting masks of yellow kabuki paper, that is of a thin material which adapts well to a curved surface and leaves no adhesive once taken off. The version is double-sided: the glazing is covered from the outside as well as the inside, so the frames stay clean on both sides and the interior can be sprayed in the shade of the cabin. The cut is prepared for the ICM kit and covers the UH-60A as well as the MH-60L version. The extent of the sheet and the order of application are described in the maker's instructions.
The masks are applied before spraying, not after it. First wash and degrease the glazing. Lay the pieces on with tweezers, press the edges down carefully and apply the paint in several thin coats, so that it does not run underneath. Take the mask off while the finish is fresh; dried paint likes to tear away at the edge along with it.
The set will save work for anyone who does not want to cut divided frames laboriously from tape, and equally for builders who want the glazing finished from the inside as well. The package holds masks; the kit, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
