An aircraft model with no surface under it always looks a little like an exhibit in mid-air. A base gives it the ground back under its wheels and at the same time assigns it a particular place. In this case it is a Slovak airport, a subject that is by no means a matter of course among bases of this kind. It is not a kit; the printing is finished.
The Bratislava airport carries the name of Milan Rastislav Stefanik, a Slovak astronomer, general of the French army and co-founder of Czechoslovakia, who himself died in an air accident in 1919. The airport is the largest in Slovakia and handles civilian traffic as well as operations tied to the country's air force. For modelers from Central Europe it is a setting they know from their own experience.
1:48 is the most popular scale for military aircraft, so fighters, trainers and helicopters all make it onto the surface. Place a model so that the wheels stand on the markings rather than across their edge; the result then looks far more convincing. The surface is also rewarding for shots from a bird's eye view, where the definition of the apron around the aircraft stands out.
Neither the aircraft nor ground equipment is part of this item.
