A set of masks for the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.VB fighter in 1:48 scale. The cockpit glazing is masked from the outer side, and one set of national insignia and supplementary decals are enclosed. The shapes are cut for the parts of the Tamiya kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Mk.VB was the most numerous form of the Spitfire of all. It came about by re-engining the airframe of the fifth batch with the Merlin 45 and received the so-called B wing with two 20 mm Hispano cannons and four Browning machine guns. From the spring of 1941 squadrons flew it over the English Channel, a year later it defended Malta, and in tropical trim with a bulky dust filter under the nose it served over North Africa.
In the package you will find one set of masks for the glazing, one set of national insignia and supplementary decals. The cut corresponds to the shape of the parts of the Tamiya kit.
In 1:48 scale in particular the molding of the canopy has a wall about 0.3 mm thick and a bar of the frame barely a millimeter wide. A self-adhesive film adds only a few hundredths to that, so the edge of the spraying falls exactly where the plastic frame ends. Cutting such a narrow strip by hand means running a blade over a rounded transparent part and risking a score mark that can no longer be polished out of clear plastic.
Spraying through a film also holds a sharp edge where the frame turns into a curve, which is the worst area on the teardrop canopy of the fifth batch. The package contains neither a model of the fighter nor paints; it is an accessory for the build.
