1:48 Splinter Camouflage Paint Masks For F-104 Starfighter Aerospace Aggressor are pre-cut painting masks from DN Models for the broken polygonal finish of the Starfighter in the role of a training adversary.
Responsibility details are not available.
Painting masks from DN Models reproduce the broken polygonal finish worn by Starfighters flying in the role of a training adversary. The cutouts are supplied on one sheet of thin masking tape, which can be taken off after spraying and leaves no marks on the finish. The semi-transparent material flexes even over the rounded spine of the fuselage, so when laying it down you can see where an edge will seat.
The scheme follows machines with the registrations N992SF and N993SF, that is, a pair of civilian-operated Starfighters that were given sharply broken fields in the spirit of aggressor squadrons. The F-104 itself was a supersonic interceptor of the 1950s: a very thin trapezoidal wing of small span, a long slender fuselage and a rate of climb unmatched at the time. The extent of the cutouts covers the single-seat and the two-seat version of the aircraft alike.
The set covers extensive parts of the airframe, so one proceeds in layers. First comes the lighter shade over the whole surface, after it has dried the fields are laid and spraying is done in thin applications. A sharp edge arises only where the tape adheres perfectly, so press the edges down with a toothpick or a stick. It is removed with a gentle sideways pull, before the finish has fully cured.
Paints, varnish and a model are not included in the package.
