Armory 1:48 SR-71A Blackbird – early type wheels with bulged tires is a resin replacement set of landing gear wheels for the reconnaissance aircraft kit in 1:48.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin add-on set of wheels for the kit of the SR-71A Blackbird strategic reconnaissance aircraft in 1:48. It is not an airplane model but a replacement for the wheels from the plastic kit. The tires are cast with a bulge where they touch the ground, so the finished model stands naturally on the surface. According to the name this is the early pattern of wheel.
The Lockheed SR-71A Blackbird was an American two-seat strategic reconnaissance aircraft capable of sustained flight above Mach 3 at great altitude. The structure was largely titanium, because the skin of the airframe heated up severely in flight. Each main gear leg carried three wheels, which retracted into bays in the fuselage. Because of the thermal loads the tires of the Blackbird were impregnated with aluminum powder, so they did not look black but a markedly lighter silver-gray shade.
Wash the parts in warm water with dish soap to remove the mold release agent. Cut the casting blocks off with a fine saw and level the contact faces so that all the wheels on one leg lie on the same plane – with three wheels together any unevenness shows immediately. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Sand wet and with your airways protected, and apply primer before painting. Do not mix black for the tires; start from a light gray with a faint metallic cast and add discreet dusting. The hubs can be brought out with an aluminum shade and a light wash into the recesses.
This is an add-on set, not a model kit. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
