A basic photo-etched set for the model of the German StuG III Ausf. G assault gun in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit of the vehicle but a set of photo-etched metal parts that replace those parts of the kit whose thickness plastic cannot capture in this scale. The set is cut for the Tamiya kit, so the parts fit without any further adjustment of shape.
Injection-molded plastic has a technological minimum thickness. Brackets, eyes, grilles, small plates and clips therefore come out several times thicker on a model than the scale would call for. Photo-etch is a sheet a few tenths of a millimeter thick with an etched relief - once bent, even a small bracket looks like sheet metal and not like a beam. On a vehicle with a surface as broken up as the StuG III, the difference shows even in a photograph of the finished model.
The StuG III Ausf. G was the most widespread version of the German assault gun built on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw. III tank. The 7.5 cm gun was mounted rigidly in a low casemate without a rotating turret, which gave the vehicle a small silhouette. The Ausf. G is a late variant with a revised superstructure and plenty of external equipment - and that is exactly what makes photo-etched accessories rewarding.
Cut the parts out of the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface; do not twist them out. Make the bends in a bender or at least between two razor blades held to the scored line, bend in short movements and always toward the etched groove. Degrease the metal with alcohol before gluing and make the joints with a minimum of super glue applied with a pin. A primer is compulsory on metal before painting.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted; it is an accessory for a model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
