Pre-cut masking films for the glazing of the Soviet Su-11 interceptor in 1:48 scale, for the outside and the inside. Derived from the Trumpeter kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Soviet Su-11 grew directly out of the earlier Su-9 and the difference shows at first glance: in the mouth of the nose the fixed cone was widened to take the Oryol radar. It was that radar that gave the machine the ability to bring guided missiles onto a target beyond the pilot's sight and made it a night interception weapon of the air defense forces. The delta wing without a foreplane gave high speed, but it landed fast and unforgivingly. The type entered service in 1964 and was never built in the numbers of the later twin-engine machines from the same design office.
The sliding section of the canopy is narrow on this type, the frames are close together and only a thin strip of glazing is left between them. Painting them with a brush means a wavering width; laying tape means measuring. Cut film seats exactly where it belongs, and the width of the frame is then the same everywhere.
A practical note in closing: it is sensible to mask the cockpit only after the interior has been painted and the clear part seated in the fuselage, otherwise the frame is easily soiled during handling. Paints, filler and the model itself are not part of the delivery. The set therefore deals with a single thing, but with the one a finished model is most often judged by.
