Pre-cut New Ware kabuki masks intended solely for the exhaust nozzles of models from the Su-27 family in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit and not a set of masks for the canopy — it is a narrowly focused accessory that solves one single, extremely tedious job: dividing the metal bands on segmented nozzles. Masking these circular rings by hand means sticking down and trimming dozens of millimeter-wide strips, and even then the result tends to come out irregular. The set is aimed at one particular nozzle standard, which carries the part designation B14, so compare the shape of the nozzles on your own model before buying.
The Su-27 family is a line of twin-engine combat aircraft with the engines carried in separate nacelles at the rear. The exhaust nozzles are formed by movable segmented petals with a prominent ring-shaped division. The metal surface of the nozzles has no single shade: bands of differently colored metal follow one another according to how hot they ran, and it is exactly this transition that gives the rear of the model its characteristic look. Without masks the bands are hard to spray, and irregularity shows immediately on a circular part.
Before masking, spray the nozzles all over with a base metal shade and let them dry thoroughly — metallic paints are sensitive to fingerprints and to mechanical damage. Seat the masks dry with tweezers, press the edges down with a blunt tool and spray in thin coats so that no step forms at the edge. Apply the metallics last and let them rest; they are harder to overspray and to mask than ordinary paints. Finally, blend the transitions between the bands with a light wash or a gentle mist of a dark smoke shade.
The package contains nozzle masks only. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
