A set of pre-cut self-adhesive masks for a model of the single-seat Su-57 in 1:48 scale. The package contains sheets of masks made of thin kabuki masking tape, not a model. The masks serve to cover the cockpit glazing and other areas that are to stay clean during spraying. The manufacturer is the Czech firm Eduard.
The Su-57 is a single-seat twin-engine aircraft of the current generation on which the effort to reduce radar reflectivity is evident: it has faceted edges, internal weapon bays and a smoothly shaped canopy. It is precisely that smoothly flowing canopy with its prominent frames that is the most demanding thing to mask accurately when building a model.
The pre-cut masks follow the shape of the individual glazed areas, so the edge of the paint comes out sharp and the frames are of uniform width along their whole length. Kabuki tape adapts well to rounded transitions, holds firmly and leaves no adhesive on the clear part once removed. First degrease the glazing. Lift a mask out of the sheet with a scalpel or tweezers, lay it on dry and press it down all the way around with a wooden stick, because an edge that is not fully stuck down is the one cause of paint creeping under. Spray in thin coats and remove the masks as soon as the finish is dry to the touch.
The package contains masking material only: the kit, paints and glue are not part of it. The masks are cut to a particular shape of glazing, so check before ordering that they match the kit you are building.
