This item is not a kit of an aircraft but a set from the Eduard SPACE line — so-called 3D decals. They are motifs printed on decal paper with three-dimensional relief and in color, so on a model they look like raised, already painted detail, while they are simply lifted off the moistened backing paper. The set is intended for the interior of the Spitfire Mk.XVI in 1:48 scale and is an alternative to a resin cockpit for modelers who do not want to cut, sand and glue.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.XVI was a late version of the British fighter with a Merlin engine built under license in the United States. The machines were built both with a standard and with a cut-down rear fuselage and a teardrop canopy, which improved the crew's view to the rear. They were employed mainly at the close of the war in the fighter-bomber role over western Europe and part of them served after the war too. Inside the cockpit there appeared an instrument panel of the late type, which this kind of accessory is aimed at.
The base has to be smooth and glossy, otherwise a matte haze stays around the decal. Cut the motifs out close and moisten only the backing paper under them, as a sponge with a drop of detergent is enough. Relief features take less pulling than ordinary decals — lift them with tweezers and seat them first time. Once seated, fix them with white PVA glue and let them dry thoroughly; a decal softener does not belong on them, as its chemicals attack the printed resin. Finally, unify the surface with matte varnish, and the instrument dials can be brought alive with a drop of clear varnish, which imitates glass.
