A set of shaped masks for the glazing frames of the two-seat Skyhawk in 1:48 scale. The set is cut for the Hasegawa kit.
The two-seat variant of the Skyhawk came about by inserting a fuselage section into which a second seat and a second set of controls fitted. The form designated by the letters TA and J was deliberately simplified, without combat systems, because its task was not to fly into action but to teach future carrier pilots to handle a jet. For decades new pilots passed through training squadrons on this very type and many of them made their first deck landing on it. Several machines also served with an aerobatic team as support and liaison aircraft.
The lengthened glazing consists of a windscreen, two separate sliding sections and a fixed arch between them. That middle frame is the most awkward to mask, because it is tall, narrows toward the bottom and on both sides runs into a differently curved surface. Preparing strips by hand takes longer here than on the single-seat version and the inaccuracies add up. The set turns that step into simply seating the pieces along the engraved outline.
