An accessory wheel set for a model of the TB.2 unmanned aerial vehicle in 1:48 scale. Wheels belong among the parts where the difference between injection-molded plastic and a casting shows: on plastic wheels the mold parting line runs across the tire tread and sanding it away tends to be slow. A separate set does away with that step and at the same time offers a sharper rendering of the tread and the division of the rim. The set is released by Clear Prop Models, the manufacturer that also makes a kit of this type in this scale.
The TB.2 is a Turkish medium-sized unmanned aerial vehicle with an endurance measured in tens of hours, intended for reconnaissance and for carrying armament on underwing stores. In design terms it is a high-wing machine with a twin-boom tail and a pusher propeller at the rear. The landing gear is of tricycle layout, with a nose wheel and the main wheels under the fuselage, and because it does not retract it stays permanently in view on a finished model. That is exactly why swapping the wheels pays off more on this type than on aircraft with retractable gear.
Before gluing, wash the castings in lukewarm water with detergent to free them of residue of mold release agent, because otherwise the paint will not hold on them. Cut the casting blocks off with a modeling saw or a cutter rather than by snipping, because the material is more brittle than plastic. Use breathing protection when sanding and sand wet if you can. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue, because the classic cement for plastic has no effect on this material. Do not paint the tire pure black; a dark gray with a touch of brown looks more convincing in scale, and separate the rim with a mask or paint it before fitting.
The set contains replacement parts for a build. The model, paints and glue are not part of it.
