Eduard Big Ed 1:48 TBD-1 Devastator is a collection of photo-etched parts and a masking set for a detailed build of a model of this American carrier-borne torpedo bomber. It is not a model but a set of accessories.
Responsibility details are not available.
This Big Ed set from the Czech maker Eduard brings several separate accessory sets for the plastic model of the Douglas TBD-1 Devastator in 1:48 scale together into a single box. It is not an aircraft kit but a set of details with which the build of that kit is raised to a higher level. The box typically contains pre-painted photo-etched parts for the interior, photo-etched parts for the exterior, steel seat belts, a set of photo-etched parts for the landing flaps and self-adhesive masking film for the canopy and the wheels.
The Douglas TBD Devastator was an American carrier-borne torpedo bomber of the 1930s, one of the first all-metal monoplanes of the US Navy with retractable landing gear. It became obsolete quickly in service and gained tragic fame at the Battle of Midway in 1942, where entire squadrons of Devastators were wiped out attacking the Japanese aircraft carriers.
The pre-painted photo-etched parts are printed in advance and replace or supplement the plastic parts of the instrument panel and the interior. Photo-etched parts are separated with a sharp knife and glued with cyanoacrylate. The masking film will speed up and sharpen the spraying of the canopy framing considerably.
This is an add-on set, not the model itself. The base kit, glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package.
