A plastic kit of the single-seat MiG-29 fighter aircraft in the izdeliye 9-13 version in 1:48 scale, released as a limited edition aimed at machines of the Ukrainian Air Force in a digital camouflage scheme. Great Wall Hobby is among the makers that have released a whole group of boxes of the MiG-29 family distinguished by version and markings, and this box is aimed at one particular theme.
The MiG-29 is a twin-engine fighter aircraft with a pair of vertical tails and characteristic air intakes with protective covers against ingesting foreign objects when operating from less prepared surfaces. The version designated izdeliye 9-13 differs from the original 9-12 above all in its enlarged dorsal spine, into which more fuel and further equipment fitted. The Ukrainian Air Force has operated the MiG-29 for a long time and some of the machines have gone through changes including new camouflage schemes. Digital camouflage, that is a scheme made up of rectangular areas and small fields, is typical of these machines and is at the same time the main modeling challenge of this box.
Finish the cockpit and the instrument panel before gluing the fuselage together, as the interior is visible on a model with a well-glazed cockpit. Spray the air intakes and the ducts before closing up, as you will not reach them once it is glued. Digital camouflage is demanding on masking: it is either sprayed through cut masks, or decals are applied if the box contains them. We recommend applying the paint onto a smooth gloss base, so that the transitions and the edges of the fields are sharp. Spray gloss varnish before the decals and, once dry, matte it down according to the look you want. Bring the panel lines out with a fine flowing wash and keep the weathering restrained, as modern machines tend to be kept clean.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
