1:48 USS Gambier Bay (CVE-73) returns a carrier machine to the deck of an American escort aircraft carrier from the war in the Pacific.
Responsibility details are not available.
Not every carrier aircraft took off from a huge attack ship. A large proportion of them operated during the Second World War from small escort carriers, and it is precisely this less usual world that this base offers. It comes printed and ready, so you simply stand a model on it.
The escort aircraft carrier with the designation CVE-73 belonged to a numerous class of ships built during the war in large batches, meant to escort convoys and support landings. It was lost on October 25, 1944 in the fighting off the island of Samar in the Philippines, where a handful of lightly armed American ships stood up to a markedly stronger Japanese force. It is one of the few American aircraft carriers sunk by the gunfire of surface vessels.
Escort carriers carried mainly single-engine fighters and torpedo aircraft, so the scene suits models of machines from the war in the Pacific best. It is a good idea to angle the model so that the direction of the deck stands out, because that is exactly what gives the scene movement. An arrangement in which the aircraft is placed off the axis and looks as though it has just touched down also works well.
Neither the aircraft nor any deck equipment is included in this offer.
