A photo-etched set for an F4U-2 Corsair model in 1:48 scale. Thin metal parts replace simplified plastic shapes where the material should be only a fraction of a millimeter thick.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of photo-etched parts intended for building the Corsair in 1:48 scale. Photo-etch is thin metal sheet with an etched shape and fine surface drawing. That is exactly why it suits anywhere injection-molded plastic necessarily comes out thicker than the subject calls for, and where the thickness of the material shows on the finished model.
You recognize the Corsair at first glance by the inverted gull wing, which made it possible to use a large propeller and still keep the landing gear short. The F4U-2 version was the night fighter conversion of the machine: it carried a pod with a radar on the right wing and was built in only a small number. A model of this variant therefore differs from the day Corsair that is usually built.
The parts are held on the carrier sheet by small tabs. They are separated with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than by twisting, because a bent part will not return to flat. Make the bends along the etched groove, ideally with a bender or between two razor blades.
Degrease the metal before gluing and let it dry, otherwise the paint will hold poorly. Use cyanoacrylate glue or a two-part glue; polystyrene cement does not work here. A primer coat that anchors itself on smooth metal pays off before painting. Apply the paint in thin layers so that it does not fill the fine drawing.
The package contains photo-etched parts. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
