A higher-ranking counterpart to the basic gendarmerie figures that the MN-hobby brand carries in its range; vrchni strazmistr was a senior gendarmerie NCO. The year 1938 places the figure in the last months of the pre-Munich republic. In a setting he naturally takes on the role of the one who is directing or explaining something, and thereby gives a group of figures an internal order.
In the gendarmerie system of ranks a vrchni strazmistr stood above a strazmistr and commonly led a station or a patrol. That is exactly why the figure works well as a pair or a trio with ordinary strazmistrs: the difference in rank is legible in such a group and gives the setting a logic that a figure standing on its own cannot have. In a scene it is therefore worth giving him a place from which the others can see him well.
In this format the difference between the ranks is played out on areas the size of a pinhead. Use the finest brush you have on them and take up a minimum of paint; the excess runs into the surroundings at once. A magnifier and a firm support under the wrist help. The rest of the cloth you can manage more quickly; the eye will find the most ornate places anyway.
